Meryl Streep is in discussions to play Baroness Magaret Thatcher in an upcoming biopic.
Streep has been courted to reteam with her Mamma Mia! director for Thatcher, a big screen adaption of the life of the former British prime minister. According to The Hollywod Reporter, the film will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd and is set in the 17 days preceding the 1982 Falklands War. The 2 1/2-month war was a turning point for the prime minister. The victory sent her approval ratings soaring and helped the conservative Thatcher win a second term.
Jim Broadbent is lined up to play Thatcher’s late husband, Denis, in the Pathé and BBC Films co-production.
