Move over Jack & Chloe: A new partnership is forged on ’24: Legacy’

Who needs Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland) and Chloe O’Brien (Mary Lynn Rajskub) when you have Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) and Andy Shalowitz (Dan Bucatinsky)? Monday’s (March 13) “24: Legacy” episode had us asking that exact question as the two joined forces on a rogue mission to end the terrorist threat — with the very grim possibility they may not leave Bin Khalid’s (Raphael Acloque) compound alive.

Things have been rather tough for Andy: Thomas (Bailey Chase) broke off their relationship and Mullins (Teddy Sears) has him sidelined at CTU. It seems as if he’s been waiting for the right time to prove his worth. And Eric Carter comes in at the right time to give the tech analyst a sense of purpose amid all the chaos.

The mission is simple: Upload an intel-killing virus to Jadalla’s computer system. Of course, the deeper focus here is to negotiate the release of Eric’s brother and wife. Bringing Andy along not only adds CTU clout, it gives Bin Khalid some reassurance he’ll have the rest of his sleeper cells up and running soon.

That is, of course, if Andy and Eric fail. And there’s a strong possibility they will. But in the world of “24,” one man’s failure is another’s gain. And as the duo put their plan in motion, Locke cut in to make his feelings known: He may not be comfortable professing his love publicly for Andy, but his interference may be a step in the right direction.

Still, the moment Andy pointed that gun at Thomas had us cheering. He obviously wouldn’t shoot his former lover, but Andy has reached a point of no return. It’s him and Eric from this point on… And no matter how bad his anxiety gets, deep down Andy knows the time is now to prove he’s got the chops to play with the big boys.

“Just do the job, Andy. Door by door, one step at a time.”

Eric’s words of wisdom may just help Andy stay the course. But as we saw in the final moments of Monday’s episode, Jadalla doesn’t intend for Isaac (Ashley Thomas) and Nicole (Anna Diop) to survive the night. Here’s hoping Locke finds a way to get to the men before it’s too late.

“24: Legacy” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
