Movie News: 'Alita: Battle Angel' Casts a 'Deadpool' Villain; Watch Ice Cub…

Alita: Battle Angel: Ed Skrein, who played the villain in Deadpool, is going bad again for Alita: Battle Angel. He will play the evil cyborg Zapan in the manga adaptation, which Robert Rodriguez is directing from a script by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis (Terminator Genisys). Rosa Salazar is starring as the title character, a heroic amnesiac cyborg found in a scrapyard by a scientist played by Christoph Waltz. The movie is due out June 20, 2018. [THR]

Hearts in Atlantis: Not to be confused with the previous Stephen King adaptation titled Hearts in Atlantis, which is based on two short stories from the author’s Hearts in Atlantis collection, a movie is being made from the actual King novella called “Hearts in Atlantis” and will be titled Hearts. The 1966-set coming-of-age tale will be directed by British director Johannes Roberts with his The Other Side of the Door co-writer Ernest Riera. [Variety]

Pacific Rim 2: In Hollywood’s latest effort to appeal to the Chinese box office, Legendary Pictures has cast actress Jing Tian (Police Story: Lockdown) in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. She’s actually a go-to star for the studio, however, and will also be appearing in their movies The Great Wall (pictured above) and Kong: Skull Island. The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s internationally popular monster movie will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and will also star Scott Eastwood, John Boyega and Cailee Spaeny. [/Film]

Fist Fight Trailer: Pacific Rim actor Charlie Day stars in the funny first trailer for the comedy Fist Fight, in which he’s a scrawny teacher challenged to a schoolyard brawl by his much tougher colleague, played by Ice Cube. Richie Keen, who has worked with Day on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is directing the movie, which co-stars Christina Hendricks, Jillian Bell and Tracy Morgan and opens on February 17, 2017.
