The Girl in the Spider’s Web: Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, above) is under consideration to direct The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a sequel to mystery thriller The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It’s based on a novel by David Lagercrantz, who continued the series after original trilogy author Stieg Larsson died in 2004. In the book, Lisbeth Salander once again teams up with journalist Mikael Blomkvist to battle “spies, cyber criminals and government operatives.” [Variety]

 

The Mummy

Van Helsing: Jon Spaihts wrote next year’s The Mummy (behind the scenes, above), which will kick off a new series of movies from Universal featuring rebooted versions of the studio’s classic monsters. Spaihts, now writing the script for Van Helsing with Eric Heisserer (Arrival), says: “I do think that if the dark universe works the way Universal hopes it will, you’ll find the protagonists and antagonists of those movies bumping into one another. … I would imagine that Van Helsing, as one of the world’s best monster hunters, would be seen again in other places.” [Screen Crush]

 

American Assassin

American Assassin: New photos from American Assassin feature Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp, a fledgling agent with a deadly agenda. Michael Keaton (below) co-stars as a CIA training agent teamed up with the new assassin. Taylor Kitsch, Shiva Negar and Sanaa Lathan also star. [USA Today]

Sing Trailer: A new trailer for the animated musical Sing peeks into the lives of some of the aspiring singers who have entered a contest staged by a theater owner (Matthew McConaughey) desperate to save his business. The voice cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly. The movie opens in theaters on December 21. [Movieclips]
