A Most Violent Year

A Most Violent Year: Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) play a married couple in A Most Violent Year, a drama set in New York City, circa 1981. J.C. Chandor (All Is Lost) wrote and directed the action-packed movie, in which a respectable businessman (Isaac) is pushed toward criminal behavior by his wife (Chastain). The first photo from the movie shows a bit of the dynamic between them. Look for the movie on November 12. [EW.com]

Magic in the Moonlight

Untitled Woody Allen Project: Emma Stone, who is riding high on plaudits for her performance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is joining Joaquin Phoenix to star in the next movie by Woody Allen. Stone worked with Allen for the first time on Magic in the Moonlight (above), which is heading for release on July 25; Phoenix has not acted in anything resembling a comedy for many years. As usual with the writer/director, the project does not yet have a title, and no description of the plot has been revealed. [Variety]

Point Break

Point Break: The Point Break remake needs a new Bodhi. Gerard Butler was to have played the character, a Zen surfer and robber originally essayed by Patrick Swayze, but has now dropped out of the movie, due to “creative differences and a scheduling conflict.” Luke Bracey is onboard to star as FBI agent Johnny Utah, who goes undercover with a shady surfing and bank robbing gang; it’s the part first played by Keanu Reeves. The movie is still on track to start production this summer. [Heat Vision]

Tammy Trailer: A new trailer for the broadly comic Tammy keeps the focus on Melissa McCarthy, who stars as a woman embarking on a new life by taking a road trip with her grandmother (Susan Sarandon). Kathy Bates co-stars; the movie opens in theaters on July 2. [Warner Bros.]
