Both MTV and reality TV stylista Whitney Port deny it, but the blogosphere is atwitter with whispers that the current season of the popular-enough MTV Hills spinoff The City will be its last.
Ramblings that MTV would be pulling the plug on the fashion-focused series gained momentum Monday when reports surfaced online claiming that executives were disappointed with ratings for the show, which documents the Big Apple adventures of California girl Whitney Port — a former Lauren Conrad hanger-on trying to make it as a designer in New York City. The show offers style fans a bird’s eye view at real-life companies that drive NYC’s thriving fashion industry, including Kelly Cutrone’s PR firm People’s Revolution and Elle Magazine.
Yesterday afternoon, Whit hit her blog to assure “Friends & Fans” that the sun has not set on The City, she wrote:
“I want to clear the air and let you all know that the rumors that have been circulating about The City being canceled are NOT true! When I checked my Twitter and Facebook pages this morning, I was overwhelmed with your kind words and support. I am 100% committed to the show and thank you all for being the best fans!”
The City airs Tuesdays @ 10:30 PM on MTV.
