MTV cancels ‘Hard Times of RJ Berger’

Hard times, indeed: MTV has canceled The Hard Times of RJ Berger after a two-season run. The edgy comedy, which chronicled the exploits of a dorky-yet-well-hung high school student (Paul Iacono), grabbed more than three million viewers in its second-season premiere in March, but May’s season finale drew less than one million people.

The network has no shortage of scripted comedy in its pipeline: It will debut the horror-ific Death Valley on Aug. 29 and the animated Good Vibes in October (along with the return of Beavis and Butt-head), while the dramedy I Just Want My Pants Back and an adaptation of Brit hit The Inbetweeners are slated for 2012.
