MTV has commissioned Arrested Development writer Brad Copeland to pen and executive produce an American adaptation of the award-winning British sitcom The Inbetweeners, The Hollywood Reporter said on Tuesday.

This week, the network ordered a pilot of the popular Channel 4 comedy, which centers around four teenage boys. The pals are not members of the coveted “in-crowd” at the high school, but they’d hardly qualify as dorks either. Therefore, they co-exist somewhere inconsequentially in between, hence the term “inbetweeners.”

“The Inbetweeners is one of the best comedies to come out of the UK in years,” raves David Janollari, MTV’s Executive Vice-President in charge of scripted development. “It’s unique and bold, its approach to contemporary teen coming-of-age stories is universal and simply hilarious, and it will resonate immensely with our core demographic.”

While the UK series has announced that the show’s current third season will be its last, a film adaptation and a TV special are already in the pipeline.

MTV executives are currently casting for the pilot.
