Neil Patrick Harris heading to ‘Supergirl’ would be music to our ears

If you were bummed that “Supergirl” missed out on the crossover fun this past fall, when Kara (Melissa Benoist) made her way to “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” then prepare for a crossover that’s all about “Supergirl.”

Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed at the TCA Winter Press Tour that the Music Meister would be paying a visit to “Supergirl” and he wouldn’t be alone. A few of our favorite characters from “The Flash” would also be partaking in this Music Meister madness, and you know what that means — Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist are about to show off their singing and dancing skills in an episode that could put “La La Land” to shame.

But the question remains: Who will play the Music Meister?

DC’s most musical villain made his first on-screen appearance in “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, but could he be returning to the role after all this time?

Berlanti answered the press with an ambiguous… “maybe.”

“We haven’t gone about casting it yet,” Berlanti says. “But it’s the right question, though.”

We’ll keep all our fingers and toes crossed that Neil Patrick Harris has the time (and nostalgia) to consider taking on this project, mostly because can you even imagine? A malevolent NPH dancing around both former “Glee” stars as he lays waste to National City one night and Central City the next? We can’t think of a better combination of talent if we tried.

“I’ve heard about it, but that’s as much as it has been,” Harris told IGN back in December. “It was a fun episode; it was a good thing to do … He wears a big foot suit, from what I remember [and] the song was fun to sing, so I don’t know, we’ll see.”

Seeing as “Supergirl” and “The Flash” writers are still wrapping up writing that particular episode, we’ll have to wait and see who snags this dream role. In the meantime, we’ll just go back and watch all of NPH’s musical performances — from The Tonys to “How I Met You Mother.”

“Supergirl” and “The Flash” return Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 23-24) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
