New ’24: Legacy’ hero Eric Carter goes full Jack Bauer immediately

“24” fans may still be missing Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) but after watching Monday’s (Feb. 6) episode of “24: Legacy,” it’s safe to say Eric Carter’s (Corey Hawkins) cut from the same patriotic, crazed cloth.

Pursuing former Army Ranger buddy Marcus Grimes (Charlie Hofheimer) to retrieve the stolen strongbox — with the goal of thwarting multiple terrorist attacks — proves a rather difficult mission for both Carter and his CTU allies. Grimes originally stole the box out of greed, but once Eric found the intel inside, it put Grimes over the edge: The value of American lives just got a price tag, leaving Carter limited time to come up with five million smackaroos.

At just two episodes into the new series, Eric Carter takes his first bonkers step into the realm of “24”-style heroism, getting himself arrested… Kind of.

Not his first choice, mind you — but tapping into his kingpin brother’s drug-dealing riches turned out being a dead-end. The call to Isaac (Ashley Thomas) was fruitful enough, though, as Eric is pointed to the D.C. Police Department — whose evidence locker is conveniently housing a large amount of cash.

With CTU out of options, Carter spots a police car and gets himself “noticed.” While the former Army Ranger lets the cops rough him up a bit, it’s not long until he turns the tables on the two men and shows this not-so-dynamic duo who’s really in charge.

Making his way into the police department wasn’t too difficult — the explosives he attached to the boys in blue made that the easy part — but once inside, things predictably take a turn for the worse. Upon hearing Carter’s plan to steal the money from lockup, Andy (Dan Bucatinsky) and Rebecca (Miranda Otto) do their part in blocking the evidence room’s camera feed. But, as with all good intentions in the world of “24,” disaster is inevitable.

Carter’s plan unravels quickly: As soon as the feed is pulled, the police station immediately goes into lockdown mode. We’re not too certain how many officers are on the other side of that door — but after presenting himself as a volatile criminal, it’s probably a safe assessment that our hero is going to have a tough time getting out of this predicament in one piece.

Then again, this is “24: Legacy!” Eric Carter has no choice but to rise to the occasion, leading us to ask: WWJBD?

While he may not go to torture-heavy extremes to make his escape, we’re confident Carter will make it to the train station in time. Because if he doesn’t retrieve that intel from Grimes, it may very well be game over for America.

“24: Legacy” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
