The movies hitting theaters this weekend provide a little something for everyone: Family-friendly animation, romantic comedy, and explosive action.

“The Croods,” “Admission,” and “Olympus Has Fallen” all open today and satisfy a broad range of cinematic needs.

DreamWorks’s “The Croods” tells the story of a prehistoric family forced to leave home after a devastating disaster. On the journey, they adapt to their new “modern” life: they get a pet, discover shoes, and try to figure out a mysterious entity called “fire.” It’s sure to be a must-see for parents and kids alike.

“Admission” pairs comedy darlings Tina Fey and Paul Rudd together for the first time. Fey plays a straight-laced Princeton admissions officer, who gets her life turned upside-down when Rudd–an old college classmate who runs an alternative, free-spirited school–tells her that one of his students may be the son she gave up for adoption. Lily Tomlin also stars as Fey’s mother, and Nat Wolff plays her potential son.

Gerard Butler, Samuel L. Jackson and Aaron Eckhart star in the action flick “Olympus Has Fallen.” Butler plays a secret service agent who must save the president (Eckhart) and the White House from a terrorist invasion. It’s rated “R” and goes heavy on the violence, so keep the kids at home.
