Country singer-songwriter and activist Willie Nelson will not face jail time after being charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession a week after cops found pot on his tour bus, TMZ reported Friday.

The music legend was busted (looking every bit his 77 years) at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas on Friday, Nov. 25, after officials smelled a hint of the green stuff coming from the tour bus. Nelson was among four people arrested and hailed into the Hudspeth County Jail, but was released after posting $2,500 bond.
Authorities initially thought the singer had six ounces of pot, which would justify a felony charge and carry jail time, but it was later determined that the quantity was less than four ounces. A misdemenor.

If convicted, the stiffest sentence Willie could received is a fine.

Nelson has used his recent arrest to champion an undying cause close to his heart: Legalization of Marijuana.

“Tax it, regulate it and legalize it,” he told CelebStoner.com. “There’s the Tea Party. How about the Teapot Party?”
