‘No Tomorrow’: You call that an apocalyst?!

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

“No Tomorrow” premiered with spunk and hilarity, but we’ve got a serious bone to pick with Evie (Tori Anderson) and her apocalyst.

After hearing the world is going to end in eight months, there are two reasonable reactions: Roll your eyes and move on, or go completely freaking nuts and live it up.

Evie’s first reaction is obviously the former. Xavier (Joshua Sasse), no matter how hot, sounds like a legit crazy person with over 200 slides explaining his apocalypse theory. However, once Evie tentatively accepts his way of life, she makes an apocalyst of her own … and we’re not gonna say we’re a bit disappointed, but yeah — we’re a bit disappointed.

Singing on stage or four-wheeling in the desert is definitely adventurous for the everyday person, but surely if you heard the world was about to go up in smoke, you’d think of something grander?

Where’s the sky-diving, mountain-climbing, bull-fighting apocalyst most people would indulge in if they had less than year left on their clock?

The most spontaneous Evie gets in the face of certain doom is choosing to sleep with the guy she has insane chemistry with. Though we’ll admit, the foil in the microwave thing was kind of cool.

For the most part, we blame Evie’s lackluster list on the fact that she doesn’t truly believe Xavier’s meteor theory. She likes his “carpe diem” attitude, but she’s not actually expecting the world to end. That’s why she keeps her boring job she doesn’t seem to have a real passion for, and it’s why she doesn’t dump her soft-spoken boyfriend. He actually dumps her, and rightly so.

The pilot episode for this new CW dramedy is hilariously entertaining, and we’re not ready to write it off yet simply because the protagonist is a little too mild-mannered for our taste. There’s still time for Evie to grow bolder and acquire a bigger sense of adventure.

However, if the possibly insane Xavier continues to be the most interesting thing about this show, we might have to say sayonara.

“No Tomorrow” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
