The South Korean cult classic “Oldboy” has gotten a remake, but the American version looks to be just as violent, dark, and twisted as the original.

If the following red band trailer is any indication, Spike Lee’s take on “Oldboy” remains very faithful to Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film. Josh Brolin plays the man who is mysteriously held captive for 20 years, then just as mysteriously released. Once he’s free, he sets out on a quest to find his captor and wreak vengeance.

“Whoever you are, I will find you,” Brolin snarls.

The trailer features quite a few recreated shots from the original, though Brolin has said the new version is a “reinterpretation” that will borrow from Park’s vision as well as the original manga on which “Oldboy” is based. The filmmakers have also teased a “darker ending.”

Along with Brolin, the “Oldboy” remake stars Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Imperioli, and Sharlto Copley. It hammers into theaters October 25.
