Oprah Winfrey has dissolved her Angel Network Charity as she prepares to step down America’s most powerful TV talk show host next year.
After 25 years, the Queen of Talk is quitting her hit groundbreaking Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011.Winfrey has already begun to cut ties with the show as the charitable fund, which she set up during an episode in 1999 that was found to help organizations across the world, has been closed down. Angel Network spokeswoman Angela DePaul says its demise stems from Oprah’s decision to end her show.
“We plan to dissolve as a public charity, after final disbursement of funds has been completed. Oprah remains deeply committed to philanthropy, and her new cable network – OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network – will continue to highlight charitable organisations in conjunction with its programming in the years ahead.”
The Angel Network is best known for projects like funding rebuilding efforts for Gulf Coast communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina and building 55 rural schools in 12 countries.
