In honor of their 100th anniversary, Paramount Pictures has commissioned Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles to create a poster that commemorates the studio’s iconic collection of films. The minimalist poster, which you can see below, lays out the classics in a graphically appealing grid, showcasing the cultural influence the company has had over the entertainment industry for a century.
The trend toward specialty art posters such as this one has seen a resurgence lately. Though it first started with graphic designers reinterpreting old movie posters (some of which you can see on this blog), more and more professional examples are starting to crop up, particularly those created through the Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique, Mondo. (In April, they did a series of “Avengers” posters, featuring the Black Widow and Hawkeye.) Obviously, Paramount is looking to capitalize on the this trend with one of their own.
The icons on the poster, which you can see below, range from the kooky (check out Mugatu representing 2001’s “Zoolander”) to the classic (Audrey Hepburn’s silhouette for 1961’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”).
Others to look for: The fun opposition of “Flashdance” and “Footloose,” the haircuts of Bieber and Garth & Wayne, and the slightly brave/slightly bummed Mel Gibson in “Braveheart.”
