"Thor, who is set to take over the crown from his old man, disobeys his father's orders and instigates an imminent war with the neighboring Frost Giants, big ole brutes that can manipulate ice and look like skinny versions of the demon from Michael Mann's The Keep. As punishment, Odin stripes Thor of his power (and his mighty hammer Mjolnir) and banishes him to Earth, where he must remain until he learns humility, graciousness, etc. On Earth, Thor meets an astrophysicist named Jane (Natalie Portman, Black Swan, Your Highness) who pretty much just exists in this story to drive Thor around and fall in love with him (though truthfully, Thor really doesn't do anything to make Jane fall for him, so she's really just head over heels in lust with this gigantic, ripped, shirtless, blonde beau), and he has to retrieve his mighty hammer from S.H.I.E.L.D., the shadowy organization that has been popping up in every Marvel movie since 2008 and has a considerably amped up presence in this film. And while Thor deals with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Jane the scientist constantly doing him with her eyes, Loki is back in Asgard using this opportunity to take the throne and become the king instead of Thor."
