Loathe Ricky Gervais the awards show host, but love Ricky Gervais the actor? Well, you’re in luck, the former is making a comeback with the role that made him famous.
According to New York Magazine’s Vulture Column, Ricky Gervais will reprise the role of David Brent, from the original UK version of The Office for a cameo on NBC’s version later this month. Yes, that’s right. David Brent and Michael Scott (departing series star Steve Carell). In the same room together.
Gervais and Carell shot their scene when Gervais was in Los Angeles for the 2010 Emmy Awards last September.
“It’s a little more than if you blink, you’ll miss it, but if you don’t set your TiVo right, you’ll miss it,” said series executive producer Paul Lieberstein.
“Ricky had wanted to do something [with the U.S. Office] and it felt like we shouldn’t go the whole series without them connecting, but we had some issues to work out, like how does David Brent live in the world of Michael Scott,” Lieberstein added. “It’s outside of the office, and it’s just the two of them interacting,” he said. “It’s just a little nod to Steve and his final year.”
