‘Scream Queens’ fails to solve its biggest mystery: Where is Grace?

Skyler Samuels on 'Scream Queens'

“Scream Queens” is back and heads are already rolling. The Season 2 premiere of the horror comedy saw a new and gross insect-inspired killer take center stage and may have even killed Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin) to kick things off.

That’s not the question that’s plaguing our minds at the end of the episode, though. Instead, we want to know what happened to Grace (Skyler Samuels). It’s been known for quite a while that Samuels wasn’t returning for a second season of “Scream Queens,” but it’s a little awkward that the whereabouts of her character aren’t mentioned even once.

The new season picks up two years after the Kappa Kappa Tau murders and reveals that, thanks to a Netflix documentary in the style of “Making a Murderer,” the Chanels were released from prison when Hester/Chanel #6 (Lea Michele) was caught on tape confessing. Instead Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) and her mean girl posse have been recruited by Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) to work at a hospital. Likewise, Zayday (Keke Palmer) — who happened to be Grace’s closest confidante — is working at the hospital and studying medicine as well.

As for Grace, that question remains unanswered. There’s not a single mention of the character — or even her father, who Dean Munsch had an affair with. It’s as if they never existed at all.

Unfortunately for “Scream Queens,” fans know they did exist. After all, Grace was practically the lead character in Season 1 as she worked to uncover the person killing her sorority sisters.

The new season holds a lot of promise and the over-the-top killer looks like its ready to cause some serious damage. Hopefully though, there will be a line of dialogue tossed in somewhere about whatever happened to Grace. Some viewers would like to know how her story ended.

Then again, maybe it hasn’t ended. While Samuels isn’t returning as a full cast member in Season 2, there’s always the possibility she could guest star. Heck, she could even be the killer herself. Let your conspiracy theories run wild with that possibility.

“Scream Queens” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
