Looney Tunes icon Chuck Jones hated it, kids loved it, and the rest of the world didn’t know what to make of it. We’re talking about Joe Pytka’s 1996 film Space Jam, of course. At the height of his popularity, basketball star Michael Jordan appeared in the movie as a mentor-captive to a slew of animated Looney Tunes characters as they planned a round of ball against a group of alien slavers.
Yes, we’re talking about that movie — the one in which Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Charles Barkley, Muggsy Bogues, and Shawn Bradley were all turned into giant basketball-playing “Monstars.” Everyone needs a paycheck sometimes, we suppose. Last month, a group of actors and all-star ballers got together to perform a live read of Space Jam. Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin performed the role of Michael Jordan. He was joined by a comedic cast that included Seth Green (whose stoner-esque bunny ears hat is too perfect for words).
See what happens when a group of Space Jam devotees get together (courtesy of Funny or Die) in the same room and relive the cult ridiculousness of one of cinema’s weirdest stories.
