Showtime announces pick-up of Steve Carell-produced series

Steve Carell has his first post-Office gig — and it’s behind the scenes.
Carell and David Steinberg will serve as executive producers on a new Showtime interview series, titled Laughing Stock, president David Nevins announced this morning during the Television Critics Association press tour. The series will feature one-on-one interviews with “the world’s funniest personalities.” Steinberg will serve as host on the series, which has been picked up for ten, half-hour episodes. It is set to premiere in early 2012.

Guests include Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Don Rickles, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Larry David, Ellen DeGeneres, Judd Apatow, Tina Fey, Jane Lynch, and Sara Silverman. Carell will also be a guest on an episode.
