'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Officially Reveals Main Character Identities

We’ve known for months that Tom Holland is playing the title superhero and his secret identity, Peter Parker, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but the rest of the main cast haven’t been publicly assigned roles until now.

Strangely, their characters weren’t revealed during Saturday’s Marvel panel at Comic-Con. Instead, director Jon Watts named each later during a video interview with Entertainment Weekly. He stuck with only first names, but here’s what we know about them, officially and unofficially:

Zendaya is “Michele,” probably Michele Gonzales, a love interest for Parker.

Tony Revolori is “Flash,” as in Flash Thompson, a jock and bully of Parker seen in past Spider-Man movies. He was most notably played by Joe Manganiello in the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire run.

Laura Harrier is “Liz,” likely Liz Allan, a popular girl at Parker’s high school who has been known to date Flash Thompson.

Jacob Batalon is “Ned,” presumably as in Ned Leeds, future Daily Bugle reporter.

Although some of these characters aren’t known for being classmates of Parker’s in the comics, perhaps their stories have been changed for the movie. Batalon is also being hinted at as being another bully in a cast portrait for EW taken over the weekend where the five young actors posed to mimic the iconic movie poster for John Hughes’s The Breakfast Club. Parker is in the position of “the brain,” Liz is “the beauty/princess,” Flash is “the jock/athlete,” Ned is “the rebel/criminal” and Michele is “the recluse/basket case.”

In the EW video, which you can watch below, Watts and the actors also discuss the significance of the Vulture, who is the main villain in this reboot of the franchise. The actor playing the character, presumed to be Michael Keaton, remained officially under wraps. Other members of the ensemble will include Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
