Another one bites the dust — or in this case, the cold cut: Subway has become the fourth nationally-recognized brand to pull its ads from airing during MTV’s controversial new teen drama Skins, which has been seeped in controversy over alleged child pornography and other risque subject matter since its premiere last week.

Is Skins truly too hot for the teletube?

Over the weekend, chewing gum giant Wrigley became the third major sponsor to pull advertising from the show, which has been deemed racy by relentless television watchdog group, The Parents Television Council. On Thursday, Taco Bell dropped its ads, saying the program was “not a fit” for broadcast. The fast food giant wast followed by automotive manufacturer General Motors, who put the show on its “Do Not Buy” list on Friday. The stuffy suit accountant at H&R Block even raised a stink after one of its ads aired during Skins “by mistake.”

At this rate, MTV have a better shot running ads for Flavor Flav’s new fried chicken restaurant!

The PTC argues that Skins — with its lesbian kissing and bird’s eye views of teenage sex and drug use — is “the most dangerous television show for children we have ever seen” and has urged advertisers to drop the show. In fact, PTC President Tim Winter has asked the Department of Justice and U.S. Senate and House Judiciary Committees to open an investigation into the show.

“In addition to the sexual content on the show involving cast members as young as 15, PTC counted 42 depictions and references to drugs and alcohol in the premiere episode,” the group said in a statement last week.

Despite the controversy, MTV continues to defend the program, which was inspired by the UK drama of the same name.

“Skins is a show that addresses real-world issues confronting teens in a frank way. We review all of our shows and work with all of our producers on an ongoing basis to ensure our shows comply with laws and community standards. We are confident that the episodes of ‘Skins’ will not only comply with all applicable legal requirements, but also with our responsibilities to our viewers,” the network said last week. “We have also taken numerous steps to alert viewers to the strong subject matter so that they can choose for themselves whether it is appropriate.”
