Walt Disney Pictures has halted production on The Lone Ranger, Deadline reports. This comes as surprising news as the project has been fully cast and was planned to begin shooting this fall.
Described by Verbinksi as “‘Don Quixote’ told from Sancho Panza’s point of view,” the film was to star Armie Hammer as the titular western hero with Johnny Depp as his

The Social Network co-star Armie Hammer is the frontrunner to take on the title role in Walt Disney Pictures’ The Lone Ranger , reports Variety . He would star opposite Johnny Depp, who has been attached to play sidekick Tonto.
To be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski, the big screen adaptation was written by Justin Haythe.

TheWrap is reporting that Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the title role of Walt Disney Pictures’ The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp’s Tonto.
The site says that the talks are “early, and Gosling’s schedule might not permit him to take the role.” Gore Verbinski ( Rango , the first three “Pirates of the Caribbean” films) will direct the film for producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
