Don’t you just love a success story?

The new year is shaping up to be an extraordinary one for Ted Williams. A homeless panhandler who lost everything due to addiction, Ted’s luck has drastically changed overnight after a video showcasing his exceptional radio voice went viral on Monday.

In the clip, shot near a Columbus, Ohio highway off ramp by a videographer for The Columbus Dispatch, Williams displayed a sharpened booming radio voice as he speaks with the videographer on the side of the interstate. Following his panhandling performance, Williams explains that he attended school for broadcasting and once had a promising career as a radio announcer. Drugs, alcohol, and “a few other things,” however, derailed his dreams.

In the days since, the Ohio paper has been inundated with calls and e-mails offering opportunities for the golden-voiced sensation, including an as-of-yet unspecified job by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ted dropped by The TODAY Show Thursday to talk about his role as the web’s new Susan Boyle. The Brooklyn native also plans to see his 92-year-old mother, who lives in the borough’s Bedford-Stuyvesant section, while he is back home in New York.
