‘The 100’ needs to pick a survival plan and stick to it

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

At this point in “The 100’s” Season 4, we’re starting to reach our last nerve with the constant decimation of any and all survival options from the deadly radiation headed for Skaikru and Grounders alike.

First we thought Arkadia would be a good solution to serve as a bunker. Then the hydro-generator blew up, meaning only 100 people could survive in their patched up home for the five years it would take to outlast the radiation. Then Jaha (Isaiah Washington) found evidence of an old cult leader’s bunker nearby, giving us hope that thousands could be spared instead. Unsurprisingly, that also turned into a fail.

Next up, thanks to some seriously misguided sabotage, Arkadia quite literally went up in smoke. All those hours spent repairing it, down the drain.

When Abby’s (Paige Turco) attempts to replicate the Nightblood effect required rocketing into space, it finally seemed like we might have a plan that could actually save everyone with a simple injection. Then it was bye-bye hydrazine, hello acid rain.

Now, Wednesday’s (March 29) episode of “The 100” seems to hint that Abby and Clarke’s new, miracle bone marrow solution might not be working out as well as they’d hoped. At the same time, Jaha is determined to continue his mission to find the cult’s secret bunker, convinced that the dud they found earlier was only a decoy.

While we love the ups and downs of life or death stakes, we’re getting a little motion sick with the various near-misses Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and her fellow survivors keep getting dealt. In this quest to find various methods of weathering the storm, we’ve lost touch with a few plot lines that deserve some much-needed attention.

The situation in Polis, especially as it regards Azgeda and their hostile takeover, has faded to the background, as has Luna’s (Nadia Hilker) potential to reunite the Grounders by taking the flame Clarke still has. It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with Monty (Christopher Larkin) and Jasper (Devon Bostick), and the huge revelation that Indra (Adina Porter) has an estranged (and also totally awesome) daughter blew our minds, only to disappear into thin air for the past three episodes.

One of “The 100’s” greatest strengths is its ability to tell well-paced and cohesive storylines, largely due to their shortened order of episodes, which keeps the momentum moving forward at all times. When you try to achieve that pace with too many characters/storylines, however, things can get dicey, and we’re worried “The 100” is navigating itself into exactly that kind of dangerous water.

Luckily, both Gaia (Tati Gabrielle) and Luna’s storylines appear to be shifting front and center this week, which could put this whole thing back on track.

Whether Abby’s bone marrow transplant finally begins to yield good results or Jaha actually finds this doomsday bunker, we hope that “The 100” will pick a plan and stick with it. If we can unite everyone under a common cause as we enter the second half of Season 4, we can hopefully get back to fleshing out other characters and other story arc which have fallen by the wayside.

“The 100” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
