‘The 100’s’ Clarke & Bellamy are ‘finally’ on the same page … and list

Just when you think the secrets Clarke (Eliza Taylor) is keeping on “The 100” can’t get any more dangerous, another one worse than the last crops up. This one just so happens to take the form of a list of people who will be chosen to survive inside Arkadia if Clarke and Bellamy (Bob Morley) can’t find an alternative shelter for Skaikru and the Grounders.

After the epic letdown of finding out that the supposed “end of days” bunker from the first nuclear strike was a total sham, Clarke finally sees reason and decides to create the list of 100 that will be selected to survive the oncoming radiation.

In a surprisingly tender moment, she chooses to put Bellamy’s name on the list, and he returns the favor by adding hers.

“That list is kind of forced upon them,” Morley says, “And the fact that instead of playing the blame game, they just get on with the job, I think, is very important to see. One of the big points that happens in that episode is when Clarke does puts Bellamy’s name on the list, and then Bellamy puts her name on the list, you see them being able to make decisions for each other and agree with them. Like finally, you know?”

The fact that they’re on the same side of this will definitely make matters easier on both of them, but we’re still wary that the list exists at all. Someone is going to find it, and that’s going to be seriously bad news for Clarke.

“That list itself is just burning a hole in her pocket,” Morley says, “And it’s just a matter of time. This is just a terrible secret that they’re trying to keep — and it’s going to come out, surely. You can’t keep that a secret for very long.”

The fallout of people realizing that while they’ve been fighting for their survival, their leaders have been secretly selecting who gets saved and who dies is going to create a very tense and dangerous environment in Arkadia. There’s no avoiding that.

We’re not sure which location is closer to the edge of rebellion though, Arkadia or Polis?

The anti-technology sentiment is growing stronger, and there’s only so long Roan (Zach McGowan) and Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) can keep the peace.

Luckily for them, they have Indra’s daughter Gaia (Tati Gabrielle), keeping the flame safe.

“[Gaia] is a flame keeper scout,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg says. “Which means that she essentially found religion and was supposed to be a warrior, was raised by her mother to be a warrior and a leader of her people, but she chose religion and a different path. That wasn’t acceptable to Indra… Indra, in many ways, was disappointed in her daughter and really shut her off emotionally when she made that choice. The two of them are estranged, which is one of the reasons we haven’t heard about Gaia from Indra before. It also, I think, helps explain why Indra so readily took Octavia under her wing. It was a bit of a surrogate daughter situation.”

Gaia’s piety and religious nature is nothing we expected from a daughter of Indra — but just because she’s a woman of faith, that doesn’t mean she isn’t also a fighter. You don’t grow up on the ground without learning a thing or two about survival.

“Gaia was trained for many years by Indra, so she is a bada** in her own right — a warrior for the church, as it were,” Rothenberg says. “She’ll become a big part of the story as well, as she returns to the fold this season.”

Here’s hoping Indra and her daughter reconcile soon, seeing as they’ve only got a few months left before they’re burned alive by radiation. There’s nothing like an impending apocalypse to help put away old grudges.

“The 100” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
