The 6 things we need from Lifetime’s ‘Britney’ biopic

Britney Spears 'Slave 4 U' 2001 VMAs

On Wednesday (Aug. 24), Lifetime announced the premise of their newest TV movie — a biopic entitled “Britney.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two-hour film will star Australian actress Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”), and highlight “the tumultuous career” of world famous pop star, Miss Britney Jean Spears.

This announcement hit right on the heels of Spears’ real-life resurgence. In addition to her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, she is James Corden’s next “Carpool Karaoke” guest, has her ninth studio album dropping on Friday and will be performing at the 2016 VMAs on Sunday.

Spears may not be connected to the TV movie in any way, but audiences pretty much know what they’ll be getting from the network. If their previous unauthorized takes on “Full House” and “Beverly Hills 90210” are any sign, this project will be focusing on the more gossipy moments of Britney’s career.

It will be hard to fit everything into a mere two-hours. To help narrow things down, Zap2it has the 5 moments that should not be omitted.

1. The rise and fall of Justin and Britney

We can try to forget the time they wore matching head-to-toe denim outfits on the 2001 American Music Awards red carpet, but we can’t. Honestly, we don’t want to. As much detail as possible should be included about the “it” couple of the millennium, beginning with their first meet-cute on “The Mickey Mouse Club” …

And continuing through their burgeoning pop-star careers.

While no other cast has been announced yet, we can’t wait to find out who gets tapped to play young Timberlake. We need to follow them through this journey, from performing at the Super Bowl half-time show with the Rolling Stones and Mary J. Blige, to their epic breakup in 2002.

2. The making of ‘Baby, One More Time’

We’re talking all the behind the scenes action. Especially, the key moment Britney decided to tie up her button down shirt, making the school girl uniform featured in that video so … dare we say, iconic? This was the beginning of everything; it was the video and single that jumpstarted it all.

3. The Britney breakdown

Thinking back to her breakdown in 2007 has grown less shocking over time. Any normal person under that much scrutiny and media pressure might want to rebel by shaving their head, too. Attacking the consistently invasive paparazzi … well, that’s a given.

At the time, Spears was in the midst of a custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline –another role we can’t wait to see cast.

According to the NY Post  Spears didn’t shave her head in a fit of rage. It was a preventative measure to hide all traces of drug use. She was afraid the judge would order a hair strand test of and — if it came back positive — she’d have to say goodbye to sons, Jaden and Sean.

4. Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy

Just when the Spears’ family life couldn’t get more dramatic, her baby sister Jamie-Lynn — who had found instant fame as the star of “Zoey 101” — announced she was pregnant at age 16. Jamie-Lynn quickly moved home to Louisiana to raise her child with ex-boyfriend Casey Aldridge.

To say 2007 was a tumultuous year for the Spears sisters, would be an understatement. Jamie Lynn told E! Online she discovered she was expecting after taking a pregnancy test in a gas station bathroom. But, when did they tell Britney? How long was she able to hide it from the press? Did she even like Casey? Inquiring minds need to know.

5. The 55-hour marriage

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander

This quickie wedding to Jason Alexander — no, not the “Seinfeld” guy — goes down as one History’s shortest celebrity marriages of all time. The two childhood friends said “I do” on a whim in Vegas back in 2004. Were they on drugs? Possibly wasted beyond the ability to make sound decisions? It goes without saying, but this entire scenario must be included in Lifetime’s biopic.

Sidetone: As reported by US Weekly, Alexander made headlines again in 2015 when he spent four months in jail on a domestic abuse charge. So … yeah.

6. A Christina Aguilera cameo

First meeting on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” the media turned the singers into dueling pop stars. It’s hard to forget the 2000 Grammys when they competed for Best New Artist. Spears performed right before the award was given out, making everyone think she had the win in the bag. And then, Aguilera ended up taking home the trophy. Such shade!

Honorable moment mentions:

There’s the Madonna kiss, her involvement in Shonda Rhimes’ “Crossroads” movie … and whatever involvement Spears had with Sam Lufti. Her parents blamed that whole thing on drug problems. We need more info than that!

The Britney Spears biopic is set to premiere in 2017 on Lifetime.
