Movies belong to the geeks — how else do you explain the box-office dominance of Harry Potter, Transformers and Marvel superheroes? Fans want out-of-this-world action and dazzling special effects, and 2011’s movies were happy to deliver in spades. Whether it’s a summer blockbuster or a scary monster movie, we want our favorite characters doing one of three things at all times: blowing something up, doing something hilarious or kissing someone hot (bonus points if they pull off all three at once). But in a year filled with roller-coaster thrills, how do you pick out the highest peaks?
