Because “The Hunger Games” and “Twilight” haven’t sated your need for YA movie adaptations, here comes “The Host,” a big-screen take on “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer’s other best-seller.
Starring Saoirse Ronan (“The Lovely Bones”), “The Host” leaves werewolves and vampires behind for aliens. There’s still a love triangle, natch, but this one is a bit more tricky than Edward-Bella-Jacob: after an alien race invades Earth and takes over the minds of the population, a young girl (Ronan) and her alien puppet-master fall in love with different suitors (Max Irons and Jake Abel). Complicated, said Avril Lavigne.
The teaser keeps things simple, focusing on the alien-invaders aspect with some scary eyeball photography, while Ronan — who perfected sullen young evil in “Atonement” — looks appropriately dour. Between this and the new teaser for “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” here’s guessing there will be a lot of squealing before your screening of “The Hunger Games” this weekend.
