Sean Byrne is back with a new The Devil’s Candy trailer – If you loved The Loved Ones and wondered what filmmaker Sean Byrne has been up to over the last few years, we now have an answer.

Byrne has been hard at work on his next project, a new horror film titled The Devil’s Candy. Read on for the official plot details and a peek at the new trailer ahead of the film’s March 17 VOD debut.

“In THE DEVIL’S CANDY, Jesse, a struggling artist, moves with his wife and daughter into their dream house in rural Texas, the price driven down by the property’s dark past. Their lives soon begin to unravel as the demonic forces lurking in the house take hold of the young family. Jesse’s paintings take a satanic turn while the family is plagued by Ray, the deranged son of the former owners. Soon it becomes clear that Jesse and Ray are both being influenced by the same dark forces and that Jesse and his family aren’t safe from its former inhabitants or indeed from the devil himself.”

Fangoria’s future in limbo – With print magazines trying to survive and stay relevant in the digital world, it’s surprising that Fangoria magazine, once the Bible for horror fans, is still alive.

Turns out, it might already be dead – but no one realized it.

Former EIC Ken Hanley took to Twitter over the weekend to announce he was no longer with the magazine (and hadn’t been since December), then added the following:

For those wondering: there will likely never be another issue of FANGORIA, especially in print, unless there’s new ownership.

Fangoria management has since responded, stating that this was “false news” and offered up the following statement from President/Owner Tom DeFeo:

“I’d like to thank readers and subscribers for their patience as we deal with our internal issues. We will carry forward and devote our efforts to make amends with all that have been inconvenienced in our current state of affairs.”

The post at the website goes on to add that the website and social media accounts will remain active as they work through the magazine’s issues. The statement brought numerous responses from contributors still waiting to be paid…

Whatever the case may be, it seems obvious that the magazine is struggling and it’s hard to imagine the print version rebounding. More on this as it develops.

Arrow plans to introduce you to The Ghoul – Arrow Films has announced that they’ve obtained the US, Canadian, and UK distribution rights to The Ghoul – the directorial debut of Gareth Tunley.

Tunley, who’s best known for his appearances in Down Terrace and Kill List steps behind the camera to craft a psychological chiller about a homicide cop who “goes undercover as a patient to investigate a psychotherapist he believes is linked to a strange double murder. As his therapy sessions continue the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur.”

The film has generated positive buzz in the wake of its debut at the BFI Film Festival. No release date has been set, but The Ghoul should darken your doorstep later this year.

Found footage trailer for The Gracefield Incident bring aliens to Earth – Unlike many of you, I’m not inherently opposed to found footage films. I understand the limitations of the format, but in the right hands, the stories can still be compelling.

Director Mathieu Rathje is the latest filmmaker to take the form out for a spin, and he’s revealed the trailer for his new project — a humans vs. aliens piece entitled The Gracefield Incident.

No official release date has been set, but there will be some sort of theatrical release this summer. Until then, see if the trailer captures your interest.

Horror on the Horizon

Valentine’s Day is traditionally a holiday focused on romance, but that doesn’t mean you and your special someone can’t cuddle up with a horror movie or two.

February 17 is pretty much empty on the horror front – with two new limited releases taking center stage.

The biggest release is XX an all-new anthology film with a twist: a female filmmaker directed each entry. Given that February is Women in Horror Month, this seems like perfect timing.

Also on the docket this weekend is Ghost of New Orleans – a supernatural mystery featuring performances from Josh Lucas, Lake Bell, and Terrence Howard.

The following week brings us Jordan Peele’s Get Out – which generated a ton of buzz at Sundance last month. Check out the trailer below.

And if that’s not enough for you, the adaptation of MR Carey’s novel The Girl with All the Gifts is available on VOD through DirecTV.

Horror on Home Video

If you’d rather enjoy your holiday chills from the comfort of home, you’ve got plenty of options. Things are pretty quiet on February 21, but we do get a new version of The Purge: Anarchy on February 17. Things pick up considerably on the last day of the month, with the release of several high profile discs. Headlining the list are updated versions of beloved titles like The Gate, Deadtime Stories, and Slaughterhouse.
