‘The Originals’: Sorry Marcel, you’re going to have to team with the Mikaelsons agai…

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

It’s been a quiet five years on “The Originals” but that’s about to come to a screeching halt. The Mikaelsons are ready for their grand return and that’s going to bring big changes to the French Quarter Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) has practically rebuilt since he first rid the town of the original vampires at the end of Season 3 — and based on what we saw in the Season 4 premiere, whatever he did to save his city is working. New Orleans is thriving.

What exactly will the return of the Mikaelsons mean for his status as king, though? The bad blood between Marcel and the first family of bloodsuckers is plentiful enough that you’d think there’s no way to bring the two sides together. That’s not how Davis sees the rift between the two sides, though.

“There’s never a point where an alliance isn’t a possibility. Especially when there’s another threat,” he explains. “That’s what alliances are there for, so you can team up to fight something stronger than you.”

Based on what series creator Julie Plec told The Hollywood Reporter, that something stronger is going to be a very scary new presence in the city. She explains of Season 4, “We wanted to shape it like a Stephen King novel this season and really draw from our favorite books, like ‘It,’ and introduce this really dark presence that is controlling the supernatural community of New Orleans.”

Still, even with a new threat coming to town, uniting once again for a common battle isn’t going to be a walk in the park because things aren’t what they used to be for anyone. “The X-factor is that we have Hope, who brings something to the table,” Davis says. “Alliances have to change and move around based not just on Hayley, Elijah, Klaus, Marcel — But now you have Hope in the mix.”

Given that little Hope is no longer a baby but instead a seven-year-old girl discovering what her powers entail, something tells us she’s going to become a force to be reckoned with, whatever this new threat to the city happens to be.

“The Originals” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
