The Producers of 'Arrival' Will Tell 'A People's History of the Vampire Upr…

There are few recent big screen adaptations of books that are so wildly different from the source material than World War Z. If you’ve only ever seen the movie and know nothing about the book, you’re missing out. We’re not bashing the movie, which is big budget, undead fun, just the fact that it is totally divorced from its source material. The actual book isn’t about one man trekking around the globe in the middle of an outbreak. It’s a bunch of different stories from survivors recounting horrors they witnessed during the apocalypse. There’s a reason the book’s subtitle is An Oral History of the Zombie War.

So when we say that someone is making a movie being pitched as World War Z with vampires, we’re not talking about the movie version of World War Z

The project in question is a forthcoming novel by Raymond Villareal called A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising. Like Brooks’ book, it tells various survivor’s accounts of the world being taken over by vampires who, for whatever reason, are called the Gloamings. And it must be a pretty good book, too, since it’s nabbed the attention of 21 Laps, the production company behind Stranger Things and Arrival.

An actual movie of A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising is presumably a ways away at this early stage, but if the book is a hit when it’s published, that’ll likely accelerate things. Right now we’re imagining it’ll be like Daybreakers (pictured above) crossed with World War Z, and since the sequel to the latter was just officially delayed, it’ll be nice to have another global horror movie in the works.
