To horror fans, John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ is practically sacred. The cold, dark setting and mounting paranoia of the film are ratcheted up once audiences get their first view of the gruesome, other-worldly creature — achieved through incredible special effects done by Rob Bottin.
With that in mind, the upcoming prequel — which attempts to explain the backstory to the morbidly beloved classic — has a lot of expectations to live up to. Which probably explains Universal’s decision to release a new red-band trailer for the film, which gives ‘Thing’ fans their best look at the updated Thing from Another World — as well as revealing how a few key cast members meet their bloody end.
‘The Thing’ arrives in theaters on Oct. 14.
