It’s funny that it took Paramount, Michael Bay and all involved with Transformers: Age of Extinction to acknowledge that there’d be dinobots in the movie. The rumors about their presence have been around pretty much ever since the studio announced the movie, but throughout all of production they dodged all official confirmations the fan favorites would be in the movie. Why’d they hide them?
We have no idea, but they’re certainly not hiding in the first full trailer for the film. Sure, they save the money shots for last, but Paramount is clearly embracing the silliness here, which is a big change of pace from where things started out.
As you should know by now, Shia LaBeouf is not sticking around for the fourth film in the series. He’s been replaced by Mark Wahlberg, who is playing a down-home inventor who salvages scrap cars and somehow makes money off of them. One day he salvages an old truck, that just so happens to be a Transformer, which sweeps him up in yet another big battle game of robot versus robot where the humans just always get in the way.
What’s strangely interesting about this trailer is its complete lack of sex appeal. The first two seemed to market Megan Fox as much as anything else, and the third wasn’t coy about model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, but so far Age of Extinction looks like the Mark Wahlberg show, and doesn’t really give us much of his sidekicks, Nicola Peltz (who plays his daughter) and her boyfriend, Jack Reynor. I’m sure that’ll change.
