After setting a new midnight record with over $ 43 million, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 looks to have beat the previous single day and opening day records of $ 72.7 million held by Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
According to ERC Box Office, it has grossed $ 92.1 million in its opening Friday including those $ 43.5 million from midnight shows and it’s well on its way towards an opening weekend that should easily surpass the current record held by Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan’s anticipated Batman sequel opened on the same weekend three years ago to the tune of $ 158.4 million in three days, a record that’s held steady even with the last two “Twilight” movies having bigger opening days.

Granted, the “Harry Potter” finale will be heavily frontloaded once you remove those Thursday midnights but it’s still looking very likely to have an opening weekend northwards of $ 170 million.
Deadline is reporting that the movie has grossed $ 82.5 million internationally from business on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
Check back tomorrow for the full box office report.
