We Need to Talk About Barry Allen and Iris West on The Flash

First of all, let us just say we love Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton).

We love them together, we love them individually, and we love them no matter what timeline or earth we’re living in or on. They’re great, and adorable, and attractive to boot.

We would also just like to say that we’re glad tonight’s episode somewhat approached the awkward situation these two are in, since they basically grew up as brother and sister and they sorta share a dad. They’re not actual brother and sister of course, but their relationship is just close enough to that for this to feel a little weird when we think about it too hard.

On the other hand, Barry and Iris also might be one of the most well-adjusted superhero/regular person couples TV has ever seen (at least now, after Barry has dealt with a lot of his issues). Even Candice Patton told us, “I think if any superhero can have a healthy, normal relationship, it’s Barry Allen.” She also confirmed that this is actually happening (as opposed to just the occasional kiss before Barry changed the timeline completely).

“[Barry] is very much motivated by his friendships and his family relationships in being a superhero, so I think Iris is going to be very important to him in the years to come,” she told us during Arrow’s 100th episode celebration. “So this season, fans can be excited to see them move forward and try to have a happy, normal, healthy relationship.”

Isn’t it kind of funny that Barry Allen’s healthy, normal relationship is with his semi-sister? Sorry. This is just the question we couldn’t stop thinking about every time WestAllen struggled to kiss in front of Joe, in between thinking about how cute they are. It’s a complicated situation!

Anyway, tonight’s episode ended with Barry realizing he should probably move out of Joe’s house into his own place, which might be the best idea he’s ever had.

Tonight’s episode also ended with the gang welcoming a new Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) from a different earth so that their current Harrison Wells could go home, while Caitlin’s hair is turning white with Killer Frostiness. So really, things are complicated all over the place, and we guess we wouldn’t really want it any other way.

Please share your Barry and Iris thoughts in the comments.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
