What is it: The Luster Pro Light Teeth Whitening System, “guaranteed” to visibly whiten teeth in “as little as 30 minutes” and to work “two times faster than strips and trays.” (I’m clearly a sucker for advertising!)

Who tried it: Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor

Why she did it: I’ll admit it: I’m a closet teeth whitener. And I got this sudden urge to cheat on my Crest White Strips!

How crazy is it on a scale from one to Kim Kardashian’s blood facial?: 5. Because it takes 30 minutes. And I’m not talking 30 minutes where you can veg with the gel on your teeth and watch a re-run of Friends. It’s a constant rotation of the 3-step process (more on that below).

I’m kind of a teeth whitening junkie. I’ll try any strip, gel, rinse, trays, you name it. So when I was introduced to this new three-part system at an event, I actually let out a yelp in excitement (as one of my fellow editors witnessed). I mean, a kit that comes with a fancy blue light?! I’m in!

I opted for the accelerated, 30-minute treatment. Step 1: Rinse with the mouth wash for 10 seconds (easy!). Step 2: Brush the whitener gel on your top and bottom chompers. Step 3: Hold the whitening light about six inches from your teeth for 2 minutes. There is a built-in timer, so no need for a stopwatch. Then repeat — 10 times! — and voilà!

If this sounds like gibberish to you, catch the video below for a live demonstration.

The verdict: It works great, and I’m addicted. I’m going to abandon my drugstore strips once and for all, as Luster is the new whitener in my life. And for $ 43.99, it’s a no-brainer; I still have enough rinse and gel left to use for touch-ups for the next few months.

One important note on sensitivity: While my boyfriend (and videographer) was concerned that I was a bit too “blue light happy” and wondered aloud if my “teeth might fall out,” I had such a positive experience. No sore gums or icky after taste. (But he did put it out of my reach and won’t let me use it until next week.)
