This weekend is all about the comedies — sort of the quiet before the Harry Potter storm — but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve any more love than, say, some summer blockbuster behemoth like Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This week it’s all about Horrible Bosses and Zookeeper, two completely different comedies that may or may not be after the same audience (it’s hard to tell).
Horrible Bosses is a raunchy, foul-mouthed dark comedy about three guys who want to kill their annoying bosses, while Zookeeper is lighter and more family-friendly as it follows a zookeeper (Kevin James) who suddenly learns that all the animals in his zoo can talk. It’s like Night at the Museum, except Ben Stiller is more charismatic than James, who doesn’t seem to do much except yell and fall down a lot. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Horrible Bosses is the clear favorite at 76% Fresh, with Zookeeper failing miserably with critics at 15% Rotten.
Feel free to use this as an open thread on both films and let us know what you thought. Are either worthy of repeat viewings?
