Why do people at the Golden Globes keep saying ‘Hidden Fences’?!?

Okay folks, let’s clear a few things up. “Fences” stars Viola Davis and Denzel Washington in an emotional film about an African-American family living in the U.S in the 1950s. “Hidden Figures” stars Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe, and details the untold stories of women of color who worked in NASA to send the first American man into space.

They are not, in fact, the same movie.

In a super embarrassing title mix up, the 2017 Golden Globes rubbed everyone the wrong way by repeatedly calling “Hidden Figures”… “Hidden Fences.”

It might be an easy mistake to make, given that “Hidden Figures” and “Fences” are two movies up for a lot of the same awards. But please. Do better, people.

Jenna Bush Hager was the first to make the mixup on the red carpet, while interviewing Pharrell Williams.

Next, during the presentation of the nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, Michael Keaton announced Octavia Spencer’s nomination for “Hidden Fences.” We give major props to Viola Davis for getting through her amazing and eloquent acceptance speech without calling Keaton out for the flub.

Of course, the Globes viewers weren’t quite as gracious, and fans everywhere picked up on the mistake and got #HiddenFences trending on Twitter. The tag is already chalk full of outrage.

At this point, we’re just waiting for someone to come out and apologize for the insult to these two phenomenal movies. They could have at least sent Jimmy Fallon out to make a joke about it.

It’s early in awards season. We’ve got a long way to go. Let’s make sure to clean up the act the rest of the way, yes?
