Oh Willow….Only 10 years old and already caught in the crosshairs of a fur-flying fashion catastrophe.
Heads turned and the eyes of stylistas shone with a glamour of renewed hope when “Whip My Hair” hitmaker Willow Smith hit the red carpet at Sunday’s American Music Awards dressed to the nines in a leather harness-style onesie. So imagine how gutted they were to find out that the rising star’s innovative outfit was actually a rip-off of someone else’s design.
Mother Of London designer Mildred Von Hildegard has publicly blasted Willow’s stylist for sending the pint-sized pop star onto the red carpet in an almost exact replica of a design she crafted.
“I’m disappointed and saddened that this will negatively impact my business,” Von Hildegard fumed this week. “My original design is now recognised in the mass media as someone else’s work, and it’s very hurtful on both a personal and professional levels. I hope this can be resolved, and I wish nothing but the best to Willow.”
Meanwhile, Willow’s regular stylist Mariel Haenn is distancing herself from the outfit — and the controversy.
“To be honest I have no idea who ‘styled’ her or the designer. Wish I did,” she’s said in response to the criticism. “I don’t ask my clients who they used when I’m not available.”
