In Issue 600 of her monthly series, crimefighting sex kitten Wonder Woman gets a new costume a bit more suitable for busting scrum bags: pants.

Wonder Woman is an Amazon with superhuman powers and the alter ego of Princess Diana of Themyscira.

After 69 years of kicking bad guy butt in a red top and star-spangled bikini bottom, DC Comics’ Golden Girl is getting a makeover that is more reflective of the 21st century. Michael Straczynski, writer of the new Wonder Woman series, says that the character is entering a new age and DC bosses decided that it was high time the superheroine got a revamped look to reflect that. That means out with the hooker boots!

“She’s been locked into pretty much the exact same outfit since her debut in 1941,” Straczynski explains. “If you’re going to make a statement about bringing Wonder Woman into the 21st century, you need to be bold and you need to make it visual. I wanted to toughen her up, and give her a modern sensibility. What woman only wears only one outfit for 60-plus years?”

During the last nearly seven decades, Wonder Woman has fought a range of villains and also appeared in other comic series such as Justice League. In the 1970s, Lynda Carter played the supernatural princess in the series The New Original Wonder Woman and The New Adventures of Wonder Woman.

Fear not fanboys! Wonder Woman’s new costume is still skintight and features plenty of Amazonian cleavage!

What do you think of the new look?
