Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Sunday to undergo a partial amputation of her right leg, according to her husband and a rep.

The Moulin Rouge star has been in and out of hospital since breaking her hip in a fall last July. At one point last August, Gabor’s condition was so tenuous she asked a priest to read her last rites.

The Hungarian-born screen legend, 93, has been suffering from poor circulation in her right leg ever since falling ill with a blood infection late last year. Gabor was hospitalised last year with a “massive blood clot” after doctor was called to her Beverly Hills home after she complained about pain and swelling in the same leg. On Sunday, Gabor was hospitalized by doctors who advised amputating a part of her leg after the life-threatening blood infection and clot returned, Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic Von Anhalt, revealed. Von Anhalt — who has waged his own wars against failing ill in recent months — says doctors advised him before the holidays to bring Zsa Zsa in for the surgery, but Gabor refused, “screaming and yelling” about wanting to spend New Year’s Eve at home.

Apparently, the always high-maintenance dame wanted to ring in 2011 with her traditional celebration of champagne and caviar.

Gabor faces obvious complications because of her advanced age but a successful operation could add a few years to her life, says her longtime publicist John Blanchette.
