A Mexican arrest warrant has been issued for an American reality show producer accused of killing his wife.
Former Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redman has been charged with murdering his wife — Brazilian-born restauranteur Monica Beresford-Redman –during a family vacation in Cancun last month, according to Francisco Antonio Quesada Aior, State District Attorney for Quitana Roo, Mexico. Her body was found beaten and strangled in a sewer pipe in Cancun on April 8 — which would have been her 42nd birthday. The couple had allegedly been on the outs over Bruce’s affair with a former co-worker.
Beresford-Redman had been ordered to remain in Mexico while officials investigated his wife’s death. However, he returned to Los Angeles to spend time with his two children — Camila, 5, and Alec, 3, who are in the temporary custody of his parents.
Beresford-Redman previously produced Survivor and co-created MTV’s now-defunct car makeover show Pimp My Ride.
His lawyer issued a statement from Beresford-Redman Monday after learning of the warrant: “I am devastated at her loss and I am incensed at the suggestion that I could have had anything to do with her death. I am innocent. My children have had one parent taken from them by a senseless act of violence. I implore the Mexican authorities not to take their remaining parent by a miscarriage of justice and to do what is right, not just what is expedient.”
US Marshals have been asked to place Beresford-Redman under arrest.
