A tragedy happened in Ted Koppel’s, famous TV newsman’s, family. His son died from taking prescription drugs together with a fatal alcohol dose. The expertise established his death to be an accident.

According to the Medical Examiner office in the New York City, 40-year old Andrew Koppel

was already dead when he was found in his New York apartment on 1, June. The medical reason for his death is the following: acute intoxication caused by a combination of negative effects of Levamisole (is usually used to cut different other drugs), cocaine diazepam (genetically close to Valium), heroin and alcohol.

Andrew Koppel lived with his family – his infant daughter and his girlfriend – in Queens. On that unlucky tragic day – 31 May – he went on a binge already in the afternoon to a nearby bar called Hell’s Kitchen, where he made friends with a waiter, 32-year-old Russell Wimberly.

The two new friends couldn’t stop drinking and were proceeding till the very evening. Then they went to Wimberly’s new friend’s apartment situated at Washington Heights. Andrew’s friend Caban shared with PEOPLE that Koppel was so drunk that he was hardly walking.

Both of them, Caban and Wimberly, immediately put him to bed but several hours later, when they came to check him, he was already dead.
