First look: ‘One Tree Hill’ star Danneel Ackles on ‘Retired at 35’ Season 2
After a few years on “One Tree Hill,” Ackles was looking to trade in teen angst for some laughs, and has sought out comedic roles — from “Harold and Kumar” to her underrated turn opposite Ryan Hansen on NBC’s “Friends With Benefits.”
On “Retired at 35,” she tries her hand at playing a parent for the first time.
When we visited her on set, she admitted that it was a little weird for her to play a mom. “It’s my first kid!” she jokes, giving credit to seven-year-old Caitlin Carmichael, who plays her daughter. “She’s actually incredibly talented and sweet and smart, all those things that child actors are.”
McClain says that Jenn will have an interesting impact on David’s life. “Even in the first episode where they meet, David feels compelled to take some steps toward greater responsibility,” he says. “There’s an interesting thing that happens when David finds out that Jenn has a kid, because he doesn’t discover that immediately. She doesn’t lead with it.”
Stay tuned to Zap2it in the coming weeks for more from Ackles and McClain, including video footage from our on-set interview. In the meantime, don’t miss the premiere of Season 2 at Tuesday, June 26 at 10 p.m. EST. Ackles’ episodes begin in mid-July.
