Here's How Neil Patrick Harris Feels About Co-Hosting Live! With Kelly Ripa Full-Time
Neil Patrick Harris has joined Kelly Ripa a couple times to help co-host Live!, but would he be willing to turn it into a full-time gig?
As the world continues pondering who will take Michael Strahan‘s spot next to the bubbly blonde, NPH remains at the top of everyone’s list for potential candidates. However, he’s not so sure that’s a position he’d want.
The actor caught up with E! News at the 2016 Global Citizen Festival—which MSNBC and Comcast aired live via simulcast—where he revealed he has a bit too much going on to host full-time with Kelly.
“I’ve got another good job,” he told us. “I’m doing a series for Netflix that’ll happen in January and that takes up well over half my year. So the rest of my time is spent with my family, chilling and relaxing.”
He did, however, mention how fun it is to do Live! here and there.
“The fun thing about Kelly is that you get to show up at 8:30, be on TV at 9, shoot the breeze, meet some fun people and then you’re out by 10:07,” he explained. “So it’s a nice gig, but I wouldn’t want to do it all year long.”
Meanwhile, Kelly was accepting audition tapes last week for her open co-host position as Strahan kicked off his first week with Good Morning America, but the feud between the two hasn’t settled quite yet.
In fact, in a recent interview with People, Strahan admitted, “The most disappointing thing to me was that I was painted as the bad guy, because I value the way I carry myself. I don’t want people to see me as ‘Oh, he just ran out, just left them there.’ That’s just not true.”
Even now, Strahan isn’t sure what to make of his relationship with Ripa.
“At one point I think we were friends. I don’t know what happened at the end,” he says. “I learned a lot from her, though.” Toward the end, he says, they “didn’t really communicate” as much as they once had. “I kinda looked at it like, ‘It was what it was,'” he explains. “I come from a business where you have to collaborate. The show was going well? We’re all winning. That’s all that matters to me.”
