How to Get Away With Murder's Death Reveal Will Be "Heartbreaking and Horrible,"…

We’ve endured cliffhanger after cliffhanger throughout season three of How to Get Away With Murder, not to mention the tension-filled previous two seasons. But no scene was more emotional than the ending of tonight’s episode, a.k.a. the last one before we find out who is under the sheet—and what exactly happened at Annalise’s house that night.

Frank (Charlie Weber) has spent the season adrift, and finally returned to Philadelphia with one goal in mind: to see Annalise (Viola Davis) again. He finally succeeded, but their confrontation ended with Frank holding a gun to his head, Annalise yelling at him to shoot himself and Bonnie (Liza Weil) yelling at him not to. Naturally, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out whether he did (this is HTGAWM, after all), but Weber tells E! News that filming the scene was just as stressful as you’d think.

“It was extremely intense. Three very intense actors doing what they do—it was a lot that day,” Weber tells us of the powerful scene. “I knew that was coming when I read it,” he adds. “It was perfect—it was intense and scary and wonderful and all the things I wanted it to be. I knew it would be a lot on the day but I loved the scene when I read it.”

This season has revealed more about Frank than ever, and Weber has a few thoughts about how his hit man character turned out the way he did. “There was always violence inside of him and after what happened with Annalise and her unborn child, he just let that side of him come out in an effort to help her in any way that she needed. And over the course of time, he had to use that side of himself so much that it just took hold,” he says.

The good side is still there, it just hasn’t come out in a while. “He’s just such an unbelievably complicated person but he has a lot of love.”

While you might’ve just barely made it through that scene—and the ending of the episode, which didn’t exactly resolve much (was that Connor hookup before the fire or during?!)—know the worst is yet to come.

The fall finale, which will finally reveal the victim, will be the most dramatic hour of the show yet. “It’s going to come together but it’s heartbreaking and horrible and tears all around,” Weber says. “It’s an intense, intense episode. Buckle up.”
