Hip-hop heavyweight Jay-Z and his pals of the UK band Coldplay have bagged a multimillion dollar deal to headline a concert at the grand opening of a Las Vegas nightclub on New Year’s Eve.
The British rockers and the hip-hop superstar will see in 2011 by providing the soundtrack for the invite-only Grand Opening Celebration of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Resort. Guests will be treated to separate sets from Coldplay and Jay-Z before the two acts take to the stage together. It’s all being organized by celebrity party planner Colin Cowie, who has opted against offering tickets for sale to the general public.
“Organizers have spent millions securing the acts. The word is that Beyonce is now looking for a Vegas New Year’s gig so she will be in town with Jay,” a spywitness told The New York Post Page Six Column.
Jay-Z and Coldplay previously collaborated on the track “Lost,” which appeared on the band’s Prospekt’s March LP. The acts later performed the track together at the 2009 Grammy Awards and are frequent touring companions The children of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin even refer to Hov as “Uncle Jay.”
