Lena Dunham Says Goodbye to the Girls Set
The end is officially near…
While we’ve known Girls was coming to an end since the beginning of the year, it’s a still a difficult pill to swallow. Can anything really prepare us to say goodbye to one of our favorite television shows ever?
Luckily, we still have a full sixth season to go before we actually need to start mentally and emotionally getting ready for that, but it’s a different story for Lena Dunham and the rest of the the cast, who packed up part of the Girls set on Thursday.
The actress took to Instagram to share a photo from the set, showing moving boxes and an empty apartment as she holds two lamps.
“Today on set I said the words ‘I’ve got my fake nipples on and I’m ready to party!'” she captioned the photo. “Gonna miss this job… #goodbyegirls #endofGIRLS #seriesfinale.”
Allison Williams also took to Instagram to reminisce on the history of the show and the fun times spent with Dunham.
“#TBT. Feeling very sentimental,” she captioned a black and white photo, dancing beside her bestie. “2 weeks left of shooting with this one. I don’t want to go back to dancing on my own. Dancing with you is way more fun, @lenadunham .”
Meanwhile, HBO first announced the end of Girls in January, revealing the sixth season (airing in 2017) would be the show’s last.
“We look forward to creating a sixth season that will honor our amazing cast, crew, and fans,” Dunham said a statement at the time. “And in the Girls universe, nothing ever ends too neatly.”
Executive producer Jenni Konner explained to E! News why they decided to set an end date so early in the game.
“Judd [Apatow], Lena and I really felt like we know the ending now and once you know the ending, you can’t just kick around for a while. You have to get there,” she said. “The show’s called Girls, not Women, and it just seemed like the natural time to wrap up.”
